You learned to survive.

Now, it's time to actually feel safe.

You’ve done your best to push through. You’ve told yourself it wasn’t “bad enough” to count as trauma. But your body knows the truth:

  • The tension that never goes away.

  • The freeze response that catches you off guard.

  • The emotional overwhelm from the smallest triggers.

  • The overthinking and unknown fear that keeps you awake at night.

  • The exhaustion that rest doesn’t fix.

This 10-week program goes beyond traditional talk therapy by addressing the root cause of your distress.

Whether your trauma came from childhood dynamics, high-pressure environments, or one overwhelming experience—you don’t have to keep carrying it alone.

You don’t have to perform or push. Just show up, as you are. Week by week, you’ll begin to feel more settled, more expressive, and more in touch with the version of you that’s been waiting underneath it all.

Together, we’ll gently untangle what your body and nervous system have been carrying for far too long.

Hi. I'm Wen Chang-Lit

Licensed Therapist • EMDR Certified Trauma Specialist
Musician • Immigrant • Mama to 3 biracial kiddos

I’m an EMDR trauma specialist and licensed creative arts therapist based in New York and Austin. But, more than that, I’m someone who knows how it feels to carry invisible wounds.

I grew up in a high-pressure world where being “good” mattered more than being real.

I know the ache of feeling responsible for others’ emotions ... of being the caretaker, the achiever, the quiet strong one. And, I know how powerful it is to finally turn inward, with gentleness, and find my authentic self.

My work blends EMDR, Internal Family Systems, creative arts, and somatic healing. Together, we go with your pace. We listen to your body. Healing isn’t about fixing you. It’s about coming home to your core Self that was never broken. You don’t have to do it all alone anymore. I’d be honored to walk with you.

I empower individuals to heal from past trauma and live authentically using these 3 approaches:

Mind-Body Connection

We integrate both mind and body, recognizing that true healing goes beyond just talking—our bodies hold vital wisdom and unresolved pain.

Creative Expression

We value creativity as a key part of self-expression, using arts, music, movement, and more to help you connect with your authentic self.

Trauma-Informed Care

We provide trauma-informed care using effective methods like EMDR and somatic approaches to help you process and release trauma safely.

EMDR and Somatic IFS Therapy in NY

This 10-week program is designed for:

  • Adult children of narcissistic, emotionally unavailable, or unpredictable parents

  • Asian Americans navigating bicultural identity and unspoken family roles

  • People raised in high-pressure, achievement-focused households

  • Those struggling with PTSD, complex trauma, and generational trauma.

  • Anyone seeking a deeper, body-based path to healing

Here's How it Works

1. Investigate the "why" behind your struggles

Using EMDR and Somatic IFS (Internal Family Systems), we gently explore the parts of you that have helped you survive (like the overachiever, the inner critic, or the one who shuts down). By honoring their role, we create space for deeper healing.

2. Build Resilience with Coping Strategies

To prevent overwhelm, I teach you practical resourcing and grounding techniques. These tools help regulate your nervous system, ensuring you feel safe and supported as we move forward in healing.

3. Reprocess Unresolved Trauma

Using EMDR, we work together to carefully address the memories that still trigger intense reactions. You’ll set the pace, and we’ll proceed in a gradual, titrated manner so the process remains manageable. As we reprocess trauma, we also target and shift negative self-beliefs, integrating any conflicting internal parts through IFS.

4. Integrate and Reinforce Positive Beliefs

Once the distress around old memories subsides, we introduce new, empowering self-beliefs using EMDR. You’ll receive clear action plans to practice these skills, supporting ongoing growth in confidence, self-compassion, and resilience—even after our work together is complete.

FAQs

What is EMDR?

When something scary or painful happens, your body can hold onto it—like a stuck loop.

EMDR helps your brain and body feel like something hard from the past is really over.

In EMDR, we help your brain unstick that loop using simple movements like tapping your hands or following something with your eyes.

It helps your body feel calmer, so that old memories don’t keep surprising you or making you feel unsafe.

What is Somatic IFS?

Somatic IFS is a blend of two powerful approaches: Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Somatic Therapy.

IFS helps you understand the different “parts” of yourself (like the inner critic, the perfectionist, or the part that shuts down). Through guided conversation and inner dialogue, you learn how to relate to these parts with curiosity and compassion, instead of judgment or fear.

Somatic therapy focuses on the body and helps you notice how emotions show up physically (like tightness in your chest, holding your breath, or a nervous pit in your stomach). The goal is to regulate your nervous system and feel safer in your body.

Somatic IFS, as I offer it, brings the two together. We slow down and listen to what your body is saying. Then, instead of just talking about it, we pause.

We might breathe into that space, offer that part some kindness, or draw what it feels like. By bringing awareness to both the part and the body, your system starts to unwind.

The protective response softens, and over time, what once felt overwhelming begins to feel more manageable, more understood ... inside and out.

Are sessions online or in person?

All sessions in this 10-week program are held online via a secure video conferencing app. You’ll receive the same depth of presence and care, in the comfort of your own space. All you need is a private room and a steady internet connection.

How long is each session?

Because we’re doing focused, in-depth work, each session is 80 minutes long to give us enough time for thorough processing and grounding.

What happens after the 10-weeks end?

Many people start to feel lighter, more aligned, and notice that old triggers don’t hit as hard. You might have an easier time recognizing and challenging negative beliefs and feel more confident in your day-to-day life.

Of course, results vary depending on your level of engagement and the severity of your trauma. If you have a single-event trauma and use the tools consistently, you’ll likely see significant improvements during the program.

If you have more complex or long-standing trauma, 10 weeks may not be enough to address everything fully. In those cases, we can talk about continuing therapy or exploring other supportive options after the program ends.

What if I start and it doesn't feel like a fit?

We encourage you to give it a fair chance by committing to at least four sessions. That way, you can truly experience the approach and see if it aligns with your goals. If after those four sessions you still feel it’s not a good fit, just let us know. We’ll discuss other treatment possibilities or plan a smooth transition out of the program.

What's the difference between this program and "regular therapy?"

Our 10-week EMDR and Somatic IFS Trauma Resolution Program is designed specifically for people who are ready to tackle acute or complex trauma in a more targeted way.

Unlike typical therapy, this program offers pre-and post-assessments, weekly check-ins, and extended session times to dive deeper. We also create weekly action plans to keep you on track and ensure you see meaningful progress by the end of the 10 weeks.

Will I have to relive all the details of my trauma?

You’re always in control of what you share. While EMDR and Somatic IFS are powerful tools to process and heal from traumatic memories, we’ll move at a pace that feels safe for you. We focus on helping you integrate and release distress without forcing you to re-experience every detail. Our goal is to create a supportive space where you can heal at a level you feel comfortable with—one step at a time.

Is this only for Asian Americans?

No. While this work is deeply informed by my lived experience as a first-generation Taiwanese immigrant and my work with Asian American clients, it’s not limited to any one identity.

Many of the emotional patterns we explore (like people-pleasing, perfectionism, emotional caretaking, or growing up too fast) are common across different backgrounds.

If you resonate with the experience of feeling unseen, overwhelmed, or stuck in survival mode, this space is for you.

It's time to feel safe being your full, authentic self ...
